On June 1, 2022, the Act respecting the official and common language of Québec, French, was assented to. One of the legislative changes introduced by this Act, set out in section 29.2 of the Charter of the French Language, concerns the status of recognized organization conferred on a municipality in accordance with section 29.1.

Under section 29.15 of the Charter of the French Language, each municipality is required to issue a specific directive outlining the circumstances in which it intends to use a language other than French.

To maintain its bilingual status, the Township of Wentworth undertook the following steps:
On February 3, 2023, the Township of Wentworth received confirmation from the Office québécois de la langue française that it would maintain its bilingual status.
