TO VOTE - QUALIFIED ELECTOR

GUIDE (): « All you need to know to vote »

To be a qualified elector, you must:

  • be 18 years old on polling day,

 AND 

  • On September 1st, 2021:

    • be a natural person;
    • be a Canadian citizen;
    • not be under curatorship;
    • not have been found guilty of an offence that is a corrupt electoral practice;
  • And at that same date, you must meet one of the following two conditions: 

    • be domiciled in the municipality and have been domiciled in Québec for at least six months;
    • have been, for at least 12 months, the owner of an immovable or the occupant of a business establishment situated on the territory of the municipality.

An elector who is not domiciled in the municipality, but who is the owner of an immovable or the occupant of a business establishment situated on the territory of the municipality must transmit a signed form to the municipality asking to be added to the list of electors.

Persons who are co-owners of an immovable or co-occupants of a business establishment must designate from among themselves, by means of a power of attorney sent to the municipality, only one person who can be entered on the list of electors.

In Wentworth, voting by mail is possible for voters registered on the electoral list as non-domiciled. A written request must be submitted in order to do so.

TO BE A CANDIDATE

According to the law, every person, eligible to be registered on the electoral list and who resides continuously or not on the territory of the municipality can apply.  It is your responsibility to verify if you are eligible before filing your application to become a member of your Municipal council.

In order to be a candidate for a member of the municipal council, a Nomination Paper must be completed.  The Nomination Papers must be properly filled out and filed at the office of the Returning Officer at 175 Louisa Road, Wentworth between September 17th, 2021 and October 1st, 2021 from Monday to Friday between 9 a.m. to Noon and 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

DATES TO REMEMBER

FROM SEPTEMBER 17th, 2021 TO OCTOBER 1st, 2021

  • Period to file your nomination papers for Mayor, Seat number 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6;
  • October 1st, 4:30 p.m is the deadline to file your nomination papers as a candidate;
  • October 4th, Proclamation of candidate or candidates elected without opposition.

OCTOBER 5th, 2021

  • Electoral list enters into force. Those who are not registered will not be allowed to vote.

OCTOBER 12th and 13th, 2021

  • Day 1 of Revision of the municipal list of electors: October 12th, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Day 2 of Revision of the municipal liste of electors: October 13th, from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.

OCTOBER 18th, 2021

  • Mailing of the ballots to vote by mail.

OCTOBER 31st, 2021

  • Advance poll from 9:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Community Center - 86, Louisa Road, Wentworth.

NOVEMBER 7th, 2017

  • Election day from 9:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Community Center- 86, Louisa Road, Wentworth.
